What Miles said...

Although, here in the nations capital, since winters tend to be mild (compared to, say, Michigan or Germany, where I have spent 90% of the winters in my life... people who grew up around here SWEAR winters are brutal... but they aren't. people around here are just pu55ies, is all), all-season tires for winter driving are preferred. That, and AWD have never failed me. I tried summer tires & AWD, once... NEVER AGAIN!!! All it did was allow me to break traction at all for corners, much more easily than 2WD.

So, ultimately, you gotta pick/choose your tires based on your local average conditions. Up north, YES, winter tires for winter time. Down south, not so much. UHPAS-tires will prolly get you through 99% of the scheet u'll see. For teh other 1%, stay off the roads.

Thanks guys. Odds are, I'm not going to do the seasonal tire/wheel swap in my driveway myself. By the time I got done jacking up my car for four tires on and off, I blew the day. I'd rather bring it to my local tire guy who is less than 2 miles away and have him do it.

As an added bonus, he told me that if I buy the tires from him, he'd be happy to take them on and off my rims each season for no additional charge...only balancing if needed. I ran some tires past him (Pirelli NeroZero and Continental DSW's and he was almost $50 per tire over Tireracks charge, however, he doesn't charge extra for mounting and balancing and I get the free on and off swap each season...so there's no significant additional cost and I don't have to get my hands dirty. So given that the only real advantage of buying an extra set of wheels seems to be convenience...I think I may just buy the tires unless I get some amazing deal on a tire/wheel set. Thanks for your help!!

Holy smokes that is a great deal if he really will do it for free!!

But hey, give me a call any time and we can go over numbers to see what I can do

Best of luck!

Miles...I told you that you're already beating him by about $50 PER TIRE, but if I buy them from you, he said it's $45 for mounting, balancing or whatever PER TIRE AND he won't swap them no charge each season so how can you beat that? Let me know what you're thinking. By the way, he's on your list in my zip code, but not one of the 3 preferred or whatever your highest ranking is. I've known him for years so I can't imagine going anywhere else.

Warren,
Make sure you throw some pics our way when you get those wheels and tires. I want to see the final product! Take a pic of that tire rack too if you feel inclined

Pleasure working with you!

Miles-

The tire rack is up on the wall in the garage with 4 brand new 17" wheels/tires in totes. It looks great and the wife is happy with it too...a double whammy!!! Thanks for your help.
