OK HERE IS THE UPDATED INFO!!
This Cruise/Meet has been Renamed:
Hopefully this can become an annual thing. This year we are looking at 160 miles of awesome mountain roads and great views including lakeside driving and being the first enthusiasts across a long awaited new bridge that is replacing the old dam road.
Sorry it took so long I was on daddy day care this morning and had to wait till the little man went down for a nap to pound this out.
OK the date is June 25th a Saturday traffic should be lighter and I would really like to get over that new bridge ASAP, the grand opening is Friday the 24th which is the day before.
Here are the Legs of the Proposed Journey in order with distances and info on addresses Etc...
I have yet to figure out lunch for the day. The Park that we are stopping at after Leg 3 is next to the lake and has some charcol BBQ's I am not sure if we want to just load some ice chests and have a potluck style BBQ lunch, that would be fine with me I just don't want to make it too complicated. Please tell me what you guys want to do. This is also posted on VWVortex so I am not sure how many people we will get. I would like a SOFT RSVP like yes I am interested and want to come, or I want to come but will do half the drive till lunch BLAH BLAH BLAH that way we can get a head count of cars to park and mouths to feed. You can rsvp in this thread I will keep count but I have selected locations that should be able to easily accomidate as many as we get.
Here it goes.....
LEG 1: Target in Redlands CA : 27320 Lugonia Avenue, Redlands, CA
END: Big Bear High School: 351 Maple Lane, Big Bear City, CA
We converge here at approx 830 AM. We can discuss caravans and meeting spots from OC, LA, SD and other places (Bakersfield listen up you need to come to this drive!) We will be leaving Target at 9AM SHARP!! and I mean really sharp so get your coffee and top off your fuel before you get to Target, if you are late bring a map we are not waiting for stragglers! We end this Leg at Big Bear High School after cresting Onyx Summit at a whopping 8400 feet! A photo op at the summit would be an awesome idea if we can all fit in the turnout! School is out so we have a nice parking lot to line up in and get some pictures and meet everyone that has shown up.
LEG 2: Big Bear High School: 351 Maple Lane, Big Bear City, CA
End: Snow Valley Ski Area: 35100 State Highway 18, Running Springs, CA
We leave the Hish School and Drive on the North Shore of the lake to the Dam be sure to check out the newly opened bridge as we start decent of the infamous "Arctic Circle" or locally called "21 turns" we will pass Lakeview point and some amazing views as we end out journey at the Snow Valley Ski Area. It is closed and we can park and turn around in the parking lot. We can take some video or photos here if we want.
LEG 3: Snow Valley Ski Area: 35100 State Highway 18, Running Springs, CA
END: Meadow Park Big Bear Lake CA: 41220 Park Avenue, Big Bear Lake, CA
Back Up "21 turns" Past lakeview point and across the new bridge. We drive the south shore of the lake and end at Meadow Park. It is lake side and this is where the tentative BBQ would be held. (there are several fast food restaurants near by that could also be an option but a BBQ sounds better)
LEG 4: Meadow Park Big Bear Lake CA: 41220 Park Avenue, Big Bear Lake, CA
END: Highway 18 cross of Camp Rock Rd
Down the backside of the Mountain to the High Desert. This road drops about 3000 feet of elevation in less than 10 miles! That means Steep and Twisty and it is SO much fun to drive. Oh and the views over the desert aren't bad either. This leg ends on a nice straight road that is off the side of the highway. I would like to line up and park to get some pictures of the string of cars then film a short video clip as we depart for the highway.
Leg 5: Highway 18 cross of Camp Rock Rd
END: Victoria Gardens: 12427 North Main Street, Rancho Cucamonga, CA
FINAL STOP
Last blast to Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga (with optional dinner if you want to hang!) This last leg takes us from the high desert across highway 18 through Apple Valley and Victorville onto the 15 south as we decend the Cajon Pass into the Valley. You can cruise home or stop at Victoria Gardens if we decide to have some evening photos in the parking lot and or dinner. Congrats you just did 160 miles of mountain driving!
Please RSVP if you are interested! Let me know in this thread and don't forget to tell me if you are interested in attending dinner as well.
We need some BBQ and or Lunch ideas!
Thanks for reading through all that crap!
