Dude.....I owned a 2.8 A4 and it was fun but for f***s sake dont drop the clutch at 3-5 k unless your are modded. 1st gear in these cars are somewhat delicate and you'll burn the snot out of your clutch doing it. And, unless the stang driver is a complete douchbag, you have no chance of even coming close. He has WAY more torque. You might get him for 30 feet but then you will be dust. But with all thats been said here, the only way to find out is to do it. Go find a safe place, then tell us what happened. There really is no debate, you will lose.

 

^^^ i agree you probably dont have a chance unless his car has a shitload of miles and is ragged out. Like everyone else is saying best way to tell is to actually do it. Me personally i would do a 2800 drop slam the gas dont let that gas up untill your done, and shift it like it kicked your dog.

I have faith in this kid with the mustang is going to blow the tires off the line. I think you have a real good chance the SN95 mustangs are a joke stock even with light mods I would still rather have a escort. Those motors seem to get tired quicker than the earlier 5.0s. Your looking at probably a high 15 second car in the 1/4 if he does'nt have that much tire spin.

 

His car is about 1 sec quicker in the 1/4 mile ~15.4 vs. ~16.4. And shifting times do make a significant difference. If one person takes .3 seconds to shift and another person takes .4 seconds and you have to make three shifts, thats .3 right there. And you might not even notice the difference between a .3 second shift and a .4 second shift. Now if it takes you .5, you just lost over a half a second in the 1/4 mile compared to the .3 shifting guy. Thats huge. Look up Ranger on youtube, he got the stock C5 z06 in the 11's and the stock C6z06 in the 10's mostly by rediculously fast shifts. If you listen, it sounds like a paddle shifted car.
