Test Drove a 2008 Corvette Today...
For the hell of it, I test drove a 2008 Corvette (base model), $39,950.00 . The salesman let me & my buddy take it out unsupervised, so I hit it around 100mph, and even at that speed, it Bolted like a Raped Ape. Really bolted, actually throwing us back.
That thing pulled so hard on the highway it was scary. It also handled much better then I thought, maxbe even better then my STi and I was told Chevy's now on par with $300K Exotic's. Everyone knows how last year, the old base LS2 Corvette outran the 911 Turbo @ Nuremberg, but how much better is this new 2008 LS3 Corvette? Is Chevy unstoppable now?
For $39K, it seems like a no brainer. Anyone know what the quarter mile time is on the new Vette (LS3)? The Dealer claimed low 12's on the Base, I'm hearing more like 12.5, stock??

No, the C6 Z-51 did not beat the 997 turbo at the Nurburgring.
997 turbo (on sport cups)= 7:40
C6Z06= 7.43
996turbo= 7:56
C5Z06= 7:56
C6 Z-51= 7:59
997 Carrera S =8:0x
The C6 DID beat the 997 turbo on C&D's "Lightning Lap," but don't expect to repeat that performance yourself. As for your 1/4 mile times, yeah they are about right. And pretty much everybody without a major domestic hater complex agrees the car is terrific. One question though, why post here? Why not go to corvetteforum.com?

$39,950????? Where is that at? I thought the LT1 package starts at like $46K as a base price going up to like $54K with the LT4 package........
Of course it's still a Chevy.........for that money I'll get a new S5.........not as fast, but who cares!!!!!!

Uhm, the LT1 and LT4's were done away w/ a long time ago. Those were used in the C4 Vettes. LT1 were 92-96. LT4 was a special option, '96 model year only.

I wasn't talking about engines.......I know the LT1 and LT4 engines are no longer around. The 2008 has the LS3 engine. I was referring to option packages......in the base model for 2008 there are 4 choices I believe.....LT1, LT2, Lt3 and LT4

hahaha...thats a total sterotype but I have to say that is what I always see too. The second worst drivers are subaru drivers...Slow and clueless of their surroundings...cough cough..excluding the STI..Anyways, I was on a AUDI sponsored fun run one summer and there were around 250-300 cars. We ended up in the mountains and low and behold the corvette club was there. They were scowling at us of course and there were a handful of modded Audi's that would have handed the corvette guys their lunchbag. Anyways, our group was laid back and just out to have fun, but these guys were really cocky. Kind of surprising for middle aged dudes. We paid them no mind and on the way back most of these guys were putzing in the slow lane driving Miss Daisy. A few guys played with us and it was fun. Corvettes are cool rigs but most of the guys I see driving them are either afraid of the power or just like to pose. I grew up around these cars, my Dad had several as well as many muscle cars. We would always beat run those cars. Thats what they were built for.

Get out to your local road course guys. There are more Corvettes out there than any other single car. So we could say all the rest of you guys are pansies who are afraid to use your cars. I've seen an S4 or two at the track, but that's in for Audis. But I don't go to Corvette clubs, cruises, or showsand I won't dissagreeabout what type of corvette owners do that. One thing I do know from poll info on corvetteforum is while most C5 coupe and vert owners ARE middle aged guys, most C5Z06 owners are 20 somethings. And as a 20 something with a Z06, I have to tell you, the combination of maturing, racing on track, owning a car with nothing to prove, and owning a car capable of performance beyond the limits of safety on the street is powerful combination that curbs most desire to mess around with other cars on the street. Behind my window tint, when I ignore taunts, I'm sure that makes me an old fogey with too much money who is afraid of my own car. All I can say is if you think the vette is just an old mid-life crisis car, you need to get out to the track and you will find plenty of people who use it for it's intended purpose. And that's it's pretty good at it too.
