Yeah, when the RX8 first came out, it was advertised as 250hp. That number later dropped to 238hp after unsatisfied customers threatened to sue for suspiscious dyno readings and performance. The same thing happened to Ford back when the Cobra came out in 1999. It was rated at 320hp, but they later changed it to 305. Meh; Ford, Mazda; they both suck......

No, Ford did not lower the hp rating down to 305. They allowed owners to bring the cars in to the dealers and have a new intake installed for free that was supposed to supply the missing hp. As for the many Japanese cars that lost hp last year, that was due to the new, more acurate way that SAE is requiring the manufactures to test their HP. Many of the Japanese brands were using allowed methods under the old rules that resulted in higher numbers. Many of the GM cars hp rating went up with the new system! One funny example is that Honda was claiming over 200hp for the new civic Si before it came out. Due to the new rules, it got rated at 197hp. Ooooooooops.

Oh, you may be right about the Cobra thing. I thought they lowered it, my bad.....[8D]
But for the RX8, though, it's numbers were dropped quite a while before the new SAE hp rating Standards came into effect. RX8's came out for either the '03 or'04 model year, though, so that was before the change.
But yeah, the Z06 was an example that went up. From 500hp to 505hp. The Viper gained also, but I'm not sure how much. I think from 500hp and 525tq, to 510hp and 535tq. Could be wrong, though......

Gained through engineering advancements not the rating system....I mean the old number might have went up, but they also changed the engine so the newest engine is the most powerful they've ever built this year

Yeah, I know. They got 600hp this year. The previous engine gained some under therevised SAE ratings, though. Damn, I want a Viper. 600hp....
