So i was on my way home from the AMA Suberbike races this weekend and i was cruisin down the Freeway at about 85 when i see this Mercedes in my mirror. Its comin up on me real fast so my first reaction is to gun it...so i did, i pulled and we were goin about 120 before we hit traffic and had to slow down, but he wasnt gaining on me at all, we were pretty even. does anybody know the specs on those things? I only have a stock 2.8. and he seemed to like it, we slowed down and he passed and gave me a wave, so i gave him the nod...you know the one. anyways thats my story, i usually dont speed that outragously but i have to see what my car could do, i just got it a couple of weeks ago.

I used to have a96 2.8 auto 2wd and I hate to say it but there is no way it would keep up with a 230 kompressor. Maybe a newer 2.8, but not the 172hp version sohc.

230k's are slow to begin with haha. They're all over due to the sport pack deal that MBZ made with the 230.

My father has a 01 230K a/t. It's a nice car but it is kind of a dog. He drove my 1.8t 5 speed the other day and he said the audi was definately quicker. (I'm bone stock right now). I don't know but, the benz feels like the power is all top end, it really doesn't have all that much from a dig. Just my $.02.

C230K's are pretty decent. I used to have one with crank pulley and exhaust. They can get up on the highway but they are pretty heavy and they aren't too good for light to light racing.

My new ride is a C230 from 2005. I used to drive a 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro so I'm really missing the awd now that we have snow up here in Southern Ontario. The '05 C230 has a 1.8L supercharged engine that puts out 190hp to the rear wheels and with the blower its got lots of torque down low (previously had a 2.3L naturally aspirated or lower boost, I forget). I have the 'tip-tronic' tranny or whatever MB calls it. I like it because I do lots of city driving and letting the tranny do all the work is much nicer, then on the highway I can shift it how ever I want (minus the fun of clutching and bliping downshifts). I find I am far less agressive with the tip tronic as well and with my CBR I really cant afford any speeding tix. As far as speed goes, the Kompressor is fast! I cant launch as well as if it were stick but once I'm off the line it goes like hell. (for a 4cyl) I dont really race only cuz its hard to find ppl who wanna race me. I've beaten an MX-6 with some racey stickers on it, lol. I also beat an old vette (uphill). Nothing else really come to mind. But the car is sooo smooth, it just glides over the road and with 17" & 40 series rubber it handles like its on rails. When I first got it I had to use the cruz control everywhere so I wouldnt speed, you really dont notice how fast you are going. The brakes are amazing too. Deep down I am a diehard Audi fan but I would compare this to the A3 Sportline which would have been 15k CDN more (same glass roof, same power, leather but the Audi would have had Quattro). I must say that this benz is pretty sweet, but then again I still have warrenty!
