wheel and tire size question
2001.5 S4 6spd GAIC Chip
So I just chipped my S4 and wow it is such a big difference! I am trying to buy rims and am told if I go to 18's I will lost some of the Chips power...if this is true is it a negligable amount?
Also if I get 18x8.5 rims (OZ Gallileo III's) the tire sizerecconmended from Tire Rack is 225/40/18...will these be ok? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: wheel and tire size question
never heard of power loss by moving to 18" wheels, but hey I could be wrong. I have a 2000 S4 and I'm putting 18" wheels on it with some 235/40/18 tires (yes they will fit). Make sure you call the seller/dealer/manufacturer of the wheel you buy to make sure it will fit the S4. A lot of wheels have trouble clearing the brakes.

RE: wheel and tire size question
I hear that since its a bigger wheel it has more rotation thus there may be small HP loss. I could be wrong but it makes sense I am sure its negligable.
Tire Rack assures me they will fit. I am just not sure if this is the best tire size for an 18x8.5 rim. If the 225/40/17 tires are the best optionI will go with that size.

RE: wheel and tire size question
what you have is more rotating mass, requires more power to turn it, and stop it. but it won't hurt you too much, if your worried, go with a light weight wheel.
as for sizing, you can rock a 245 40 18. that's what ill be getting once theyre off backorder, i'm on mtm springs too. they will fit, but you need a 5x112 rim with backspacing of 35, and you'll need spacers to run em' too, probably 8-10 mm.

RE: wheel and tire size question
So I guess my question is what is the best tire to put on an 18x8.5 wheel. The ones I am getting are 5x112 35mm offset and are coming with 225/40/18's unless I hurry up and change my order.
Is there a benefit to going with a wider profile or are the 225's good?

RE: wheel and tire size question
dont go above 235...
with a bigger wheel you probably have more weight (unsprung) as well as additional rotating mass... i think it was something for like every pound a wheel is expect a 4hp loss... but dont quote me on that...
the difference will be pretty much negligible...
