Value of 2002 S6 Avant
Hi All,
This is my first post here, you have an excellent form and the archives have been a great resource.
I am looking at purchasing a 2002 S6 avant with 60k. The seller is a private party and has not yet decided on a price. I have done some research on the web and have found 7 S6s at different dealers advertised between 14.5 and 17k, also a few with comperable mileage advertised at 21 to 24k. Can anyone here help me with a real-world value for the S6? I will be driving it tomorrow.
Thanks!

Looks like you've done your homework, comparing like vehicles to like mileage and you have your answer. I'd say that is as close to real world pricing as you can get. I'd offer a reasonable amount without being a cheapo to start the negotiations.
Look on all the major blue books and the big auto advertisers and see what those cars are going for.

Thanks for the feedback. I drove the car yesterday and unfortunately its not for me, I have been driving manuals for years and the auto is just not my thing. I drove a M3 recently with SMG and really liked it, but the tiptronic is quite a bit slower to kickdown. Apples and oranges comparison though. Also, this car had so many interior rattles I would have guessed it had twice the mileage. Is this normal for these cars?
Very much liked the 4.2 though. Great exhaust note and plenty of torque.
Thanks Again,
Ben

It hasn't been my experience. I just serviced a 2000 A6 4.2 with 215,000 miles on it and it felt and sounded just as solid as my 02 4.2 with 32,000 miles.

How about a A6 2.7T (Actually faster than the A6) with the sport package (bolstered seats, BBS/Audi Rims). I have 67K miles on mine (just bought it a month ago) with no rattles for 14.5K.
The bi-turbo on the 2.7T is magical AND you can get it in a stick

Hmm I'm not actually sure if the 2.7T is quicker. I'm almost sure it is quicker but not 100% sure. In addition you can also chip the 2.7T as soon as you buy it and take the 0-60 down to around 5.5 with a lot of added torque (getting a GIAC 93 octane chip on the 20th).

Stock S6 against will be quicker against a stock 2.7. A 2.7 with manual will close the gap a bit but the V8 should still be faster. If you chip the 2.7 it may be as fast as the 4.2 S6. Add some turbos and a chip and some goot Intercoolers and the 2.7 will smoke the S6 hands down.
If you want a big manual sedan the A6 2.7 is the only option. If you want a big manual wagon, the only car available is the allroad which has it's own issues.
