i have a friend that had some cylinder wall scoring issues and had a major repair bill from the dealer.. had to get a block shipped in from germany.. something ridiculous.. but i mean that could be one in a million, hes the only one i know that has a B6 S4 and yes he had engine failure.. he could have abused it as well...

Mine has 60K miles and so far the only issue is that the coils got fried and cost me $600 to replace (along with plugs and a couple of other minor things). The relay to the ECU went out at some point but I was still under warranty.
There is no timing belt, it's a chain and supposedly good for 100K miles. If it does go, it's supposedly like $5K to replace but I've only seen that in one place so not sure if it's valid. You're probably better off asking in audizine since this place is crawlin' with B5ers.

Dude, I have owned a few sports cars, and so far my 2005 s4 (w/ v8) has had more problems than any other care I have owned (put together). Granted its also one of the favorite cars I have owned.'
None of my problems are major, but its annoying (window regulator, electronic problems, transmission issues, and the F*ing headlights always pont too low). Audi has the quality in the 2000's that ford and chevy had in the 80's and 90's.
The individual responsible for quality assurance at Audi in the 2000's needs to never work on the face of the earth again.
