Hi all - I went to look at a nice S4 this evening, noticed a couple of things.

1.) Display on the Driver Information looked like a circle with circular plates to the left and right of it ? (looks like brakes and shoes !). Does anyone know what this is ? The dealer did not and is having an engineer look at it first thing tomorrow morning.

2.) the drivers seat seemed to rock ever so slightly under hard braking - again - an engineer is going to look at it tomorrow.

Are either of these things cause for concern, I dont want this dealer to pass it off if they are important. Unfortunately the manual wasnt available to check out the warning symbol.

I suspect the first issue (hope) is simply brakes.
Second issue ? Maybe loose mounting that simply need tightened.

Cart is a 2001 Avant with approx 40K miles.

LAStly - anyone know what the fair price for this would be ?

First issue is brake pads....the light you saw was the warning light for low pads. Second is a typical B5 S4 issue, most do it and it can be easily fixed with new bushings in the seat rails.

Avants are hot right now....at least amongst S4 enthusists.... depending on color, transmission and if its CPO or not I'd say expect to pay $22k to $23k for it. Dealership may want more....say $25k to $27k however without a CPO $23k max would be my limit if it's clean.

hmmmmm, what color, tranny, etc.? brake pads could set u done 2 hundred bucks from the cost or so... not much but, eh
