i dont know why it would be an issue if he likes tiptronics or not. i think you can know a car better if it has a standard. as long as you can drive one. glad to hear that the S4 is getting some attention from famous clientel.

I pretty much agree with what he was saying buy an automatic or a manual. if you dont want to shift a car or don't know how buy an auto, if you want to really enjoy driving and like a stick shift then buy that there really is no need for this half and half hybrid stuff.

I dont think its a cut and dry subject.
Automatics have their place for drag racing and for people who cant/dont want to drive a stick. No arguing there.
Most "tiptronic" transmissions in average priced cars just suck. They dont do what you want, they bang around, and give you in some cases less controll over the car. Usually just hold gears longer. I agree with him on this too....
BUT Some dual clutch smg paddle shift transmissions can shift WAY faster than their manual counterparts. They retain the ability to rev-match shifts better than you can and you wont blow the clutch on your $300,000+ car. It takes the human error "i suck" part of the equation out.
I like manuals better... but if i had an F430 for the day id probably want the paddle shift.... If i owned it id get the manual

I can almost see it in an 430 for a day but none the less who the hell would let you( not you in paticular but you being everyone) drive an f430 for a day if you didn't know what you were doing. Whoever those people are deserve to have there carswrecked. not really but they should get kicked in the ***** at least. And I think Carolla will do a great job, he is a huge car guy and has a very nice collection of cars himself. Also He has had his name for quite a few years before top gear america was here.

Around here you can rent anything from a GT2 to a Lambo to an F430, bently, spyker, ford gt, whatever, its only a couple grand for a day depending on what you want...You can get a 360 for under $1000 on weekdays...
Split it with a couple friends, you each get 6 hours driving and 6 hours rideing..... not too bad IMO for a few hundo
