Default Tiptronic Question

Alright, I know next to nothing about the tip trans in the S4. My friend has a 00 tip that will not change gears once you put it in to tip. It stays stuck in 4th all the time. The gear indicator on the dash goes all red and it posts a code in the trans system that says "SEE REPAIR MANUAL" and that's it. Any ideas? I'd like to help the guy out.

Never heard of anything like that before. I have the tip as well. Is the tiptronic just an electrical signal that is sent either shift up or shift down when you click up or down? If so it may be something wrong with that...

I'm not sure on how the tiptronic works, I know there is a seperate tip chip that you do for the tip trans. Is there a seperate ecu?

There is a separate TCE for the trans. As long as he dose not have a highlighted gear display on the cluster his trans is not in limp mode. Do you guys have a VAG com. Check the TCU code if there are any

Dose it stay in 4th gear. Or dose it sat that you are in 4th on the dash after you come to a complete stop?

this is usually a sign of a bad transmission as it will lock in 4th gear to prevent any further damage

The gauge cluster does have the gear indicator highlighted red and the tcu code is an undocumented code i believe 17946 or right about there and it dosen't come up in any mitchel diagnostic software or on the diagnostic pathfinder on my scanner (MAC MENTOR) which is not a vagcom but pulls manufacturer specific codes and this is the first time I haven't been able to get a definition out of it.

I ran the code for you and it comes back as

Engine Shutoff Solenoid Open/Short to Ground

I don't know if this helps and I don't know what to make of it

17147 is the code, i just scanned it again today. I had reset the codes last night and they came back but the car seems to be driving fine now. There are other codes but they are O2 sensor related.

The 17147 is a Shift Solenoid C Electrical this is normal for the trans to ground out from time to time the BMW transmissions used to do this all the time. Clear the codes and it sould go away I dont know what the cause is but it was normal on the BMW's. The only thing was that you might have to clear the codes 2 or 3 times before it really cleared. Dont know if this helps but it is the best I have
