RE: time for upgrade
Just got through several emails with AWE...new engine is on the way, my deposit for everything is on the way and probably by Monday evening my time I will have a goodies list ready for me to look over.
I plan on the RSK04 kit complete with manifolds, down-pipes and twin-2 exh.RS4 mounts, new snub, DTS, Samco hoses, their intercoolers....and who knows what else.
I am hoping I can be driving it while onleave. It will be great to drive back to my folks place in the S4. Hmm, I better look for a satellite radio system in the mean time as well. I looked at the vagnav website about the Audi systems, but I may go with aftermarket. I'd like to keep this car as long as possible. Daily drive with a bite.
laters from the green zone...
(btw: I hope AWE sends photos during the install)

RE: time for upgrade
Redleg6,
Good to hear your project is being started. I too am overseas; west side of VBC. Since being here I have been formulating a plan for my project car too. I have a few tentative plans, but nothing set in stone. I like the B5 due to modability, but really have a hankering for the B6 lines. The pseudo-plan is to trade in my A6 for the S4, but to also pick up a USP A4 for daily driving. If I don't do the USP I may just go with a 225TT!
So many choices to make and the money is rolling in. Hopefully I'll have something more conclusive closer to the end of my tour.
Hope the project goes well and keep us updated!
One more thing...now that you've retired you are making the real dough! ;-)

RE: time for upgrade
Latest update: engine should be ready within the next 7 to 10 days, I'm getting an Audicertified rebuild since I didnt feel like an engine with149,000 miles would hold up. All the parts from AWE are ready to be put on. I've already paid for half the job. Just need to take care of a few minor other things and then wait for completion and tuning.
It will be nice to drive again...can't wait.
Oh yeah, I skippeda few items. I already have an APR BiPipe with Forge DV's and I'm not getting the manifold's as mine were in decent shape.

RE: time for upgrade
After countless emails and calls with Mike, I have some news. The engine should be done by next week. of course working overseas I feel that is right around the corner. All the AWE supplied parts are paid for and waiting on the new engine to show up.I don't think however it will be ready in time for me to drive it when I get home. Bummer. But I did contact Sunday Auto Transport about tentatively shipping it back to El Paso.
I start a new job in a another country soon, so my schedule is gonna messed up after my leave time is over. If they aren't done with it by November 30th, I may have it sent to my parent's house in KC. So much for the vacation plans with the S4.
Anyway, I'm just worried about them getting it done.
If anyone lives near AWE wants to go see it, take a few pics for me please when youre there.

WOW redleg6... that just flat out sucks, after spending all that money, and you have been looking forward to driving it, I would personally be a bit irritated.
You must have tame parents that you trust if your willing to ship to their house..!I let my father drive my MB CLK500 for a few days a few years ago and when I got it back it was saying 7 mpg on the cluster, and I looked at him and was like, WTF were you doing,he laughed, and never answered. The car generally got 15 to 18 mpg...
In case you don't have any pictures I posted a few of mine, I'm doing a complete teardown, if all goes well, it won't be an audi anymore.

RE: time for upgrade
I'm not worried, my dad has a 91 Celica All-Trac, a 2002 WRX, and a Toyota Tundra. Plus the 65 Chevy pickup, the 68 Buick Skylark, and my mom's Saturn Ion Redline.
I sometimes wonder whereI got the need for speed. If it ends up sitting in KC for me to return, they can park it next to my high school ride in the other building, a 1970 VW bus...and it still runs.
I'm not really worried, just a littel bummed. Yeah I spent quite a bit of money, but this car should prove to be my daily driver for quite awhile. Plus with the other (RS4) plans I have, I hope to make this a unique ride. Mike told me about a really good shop in New York that will do the RS4 body kit for me. I'll wait and see on that.
Your teardown makes me cringe. When I dropped the subframe initially I was like, "holy crap, what am I doing?" One thing I did do was clean the s-f, strip it, and repaint it with a tough dark gray coating. I'd like it to last as long as the rest of the car. I also got a good look under the rest of the car and looked real close at the suspension. I sawsome things needing improvment. Those will be addressed also.
This isnt the first car that I recreated. My S13 as it is, isa work of art, plus itwill be my continuing weekend project once I'm home for good. Whenever that is.
