Default scraping sound

I have been having this problem latley where i start my car fine. But by the time i get to my destination while im letting it idle, the idle goes to around 1,100. And the car makes a horrendous scraping sound. We thought it was originally my tensioner cuz it was improperly replaced a while back fixed that, but it still makes the noise and i cannot tell where it is coming from in the engine does this sound familiar to anyone?

yea it does idle rough sometimes. Like when i sit at a light it starts shaking the whole car. And not sure if it had anything to do with it but last week a couple times the coolent temp would be normal, and id watch it go all the way down at a light, or it wouldn't come up to temp all the way.

sounds like the thermostat might be shitting the bed as well. If you're going to be in there doing the water pump, might as well do a whole TB kit.

sorry i havent responded been busy with some things. Im just wondering is the water pump the only possible thing it could be, the previous owner changed it he said with the timing belt. I have noticed since driving it to school today that the temp doesnt seem to fluctuate all around anymore but, when i sit at a stop light or whenever i stop it kicks the idle up slowly to about 1,100. Also if it is the waterpump can i still drive it till i get it fixed or am i in trouble if i keep driving, and would the water pump cause the high idle?
