I have a 2001.5 audi s4 with auto trip. Ive noticed that the triptronic hasnt been working when i put it in the mode or on the steering wheel.... it just doent do anything at all i was wondering if anyone knew what to do to check it or what needed to be replaced in order to have it be fixed. After i took apart the shift **** area under the silver plate is some sort of green panel with the lights on it that make the above silver panel glow red. I did notice that their is a chip in that missing. is this what controls the trip? anyone have any idea what controls the trip and what i can do to fix it? thanks in advance.

Search here or on audiworld.com under "tiptronic cover plate." You may be missing the magnet that goes in there. If you need both the cover plate and the magnetic strip you're looking at around $300. in parts from the dealer. I ended up replacing both, but now my tip works perfectly. Not cheap though.

 

is the cover plate the green panel under the shift **** with the lights on it? and should their be a magnet strip above it or below it?

 

Do you happen to know the part numbers of those 2 things or how i could get them? Does it have to be something that goes together with my vin number or can i just go to a junkyard/ audi dismantler and pick those 2 pieces up? thanks in advance.

 

I don't know about taking these parts from another vehicle. The cover plate includes the silver top and the green board underneath.
