Default s4 Oil Burn rate

I have a 2006 s4 special edition (25th aniversary of quattro, 1 of 250 made) and it seems to be burning a lot of oil. I have been needing to add a quart about every 1000 miles. In some cases less, depending on the age of the oil remaining. Please let me know if other have similar burn rates, or if this is abnormal. I am getting mixed messages from the Audi dealership.

Default so do i...

hello...i also have a 25quattro...

and i've also noticed it burns an unusually high amount of oil. now granted - i do occasinoally push it during my morning commute...but i just added oil about two thousand miles ago...and again last week.

i do know we have a custom hand made exhuast (to accomadate the body kit)...but as far as i know there are no engine mods. what do u think is happening?

I push it as well. I drive about an hour each way per day. A lot of highway, and usually 80-85 MPH the whole way, unless someone gets in my way! And, I like to accelerate hard... I don't know a lot about cars, so I could not begin to guess. A mechanic (non audi) told me that it could be a seal somewhere that is not tight that is letting oil into the engine and burning it. (This is what I remember, and I might be way off on the jargin and what he actually said.) The local Audi dealership tells me it is not atypical to burn a quart every 1000 miles with this size engine.

Did you buy yours new? I bought mine almost 2 years ago, second hand with 19k miles on it at the time for $44k. You? I love it. I had a 2000 s4 previously, you know the V6 bi-turbo. I loved that as well.

Typical to burn a quart every 1000 miles? I don't think so. I go 5000 miles between changes and have never had to add oil. I'm at 50K now (bought new). Mine's a 2006 as well (not special edition).

Default hmmm..

i bought my 25quattro from my best friend's brother - who took extremely good care of it for the year and a half he owned it. he got tired of it and wanted the new m3...i loved the 25quattro and realized i couldn't let the opportunity pass - so i bought it from him.

let's just say since i've owned it - the speedo has seen 130mph

i don't know what to make of it - but i will say this - i was using the mobil "european car formula"...and soon after got the low oil indicator. for the most recent oil add, i used the 5w40 (i think that's the code). mobil. it says "for diesel trucks", but, my audi club local chapter vp (who is also the parts mgr of my home dealership) says it's great for the car. i did some post searches, and other users say the same. i can say that i notice the engine seems much smoother with that stuff running through it. almost silkier. not as raw.

in any case - i'm due for an "official" oil change in about 2500 miles. i guess i'll get that done at the dealership. but here's a question guys: i'm also due for a brake fluid service and a coolant flush.

i went to my local quick lube place and the guy said he couldn't do it. how could that be? am i really locked into paying an arm and a leg for the coolant and brake fluid svcs at the dealership too? (i mean - the dealership oil change is $120 - damn!)

also...now that i have a taste of the s4 power, i am seriously fiending for some Rs4 speed. i've been doing some searches...08s with low mileage are selling for mid to high 60s. but i'm thinking, dead model, a feul INefficient v8 in this tough economy - why shouldn't i be able to buy one of them for 50k or less, right?

oh well...i can dream, right?

also - until i do the Rs4 upgrade, what can i do to get more speed/power? how is that ecu upgrade? does it have a negative effect on any other aspect of the car?

If you're going to upgrade to an RS, I wouldn't bother with mods for the S. Exhaust will get you 30-40hp and a nice growl. The chip doesn't do much other than throttle control and a bit of torque. Spend $250 for a rear sway - that's the best investment you can make. SCs are finally hitting the market but they're very expensive (~$10K) and whine like a bitch.

i think michaelmccormack can confirm this...but i'm pretty sure we 25quattro owners will have problems changing exhuasts - given the fact that the stock is "handmade" to accomadate the custom dtm kit. anyone wanna chime in on this one?

Is the rear bumper different? I was thinking about getting one since mine has a couple of dings in it and I like the look of the DTM bumper.

25Quattro Info

25 Questions on the 25quattro with Audi of America's A4/S4 Product Manager

We wanted to revisit the 25quattro and learn more about how it came to be. To answer those questions, we figured there was no better place to turn than Audi of America’s A3/A4 Product Planning Manager, Christian Bokich.

1.) Why Avus Silver?

Avus Silver is a stunning color that makes the car stand out. It’s easy to use colors like red/yellow/bright blue, but this color is refined and bold in its own right. I think we made an excellent choice with Avus Silver, because it's only used by cars from Quattro GmbH like the RS 6 and RS 4. It is a really fresh color.

Also, one of the embossing options for the leather instead of 'Quattro' was the 25quattro logo with the gecko. But Quattro was something we felt was a clearer design statement.

2.) What were some of the technical difficulties in using the A4 DTM body kit?

Mainly, the rear dual exhaust had to be adapted to the S4's quad exhaust setup. As a result, the S4 25quattro's exhaust system is hand-made for the adaptation. Also, the supplier of the bumpers had to integrate the mandatory American side marker reflectors into the design, which took some time.

3.) Is it just us, or does the exhaust sound different?

It really does sound different. You don't notice it so much inside the car, but you do more so when you are outside the vehicle. For example, if you keep the windows open, it’s easy to distinguish.

4.) What's so special about the interior?

The interior is hand-made, with the Jet Gray leather, silver stitching all over the seats and shift boot. The "Quattro" embossing on all four seats was developed especially for this car. It was applied by hand as well.

The shift **** "1 of 250" was developed just for this car. All cars got the "1 of 250" script because these kept the car on a level plain.

Taking expertise from my colleagues at Bentley a few floors down in our Auburn Hills facility regarding special editions, this is a recommendation they made that makes a lot of sense. Besides, all cars have a special VIN number 001-250, so the customer knows which number their car is.

5.) Can you tell us more about Jet Grey and the special Napa leather used in this car?

The Silk Nappa is taken from the S4 and now also RS 4, but the coloring was by hand, and the Recaro embossing was replaced by the original "Quattro" script.

6.) What difficulties do you run into in doing such a special interior?

It just takes time to color the leather and hand-stitch it. You have to do it in Silk Nappa only. In Europe and the rest of the world, you can also get Valcona leather, but only one leather surface (Silk Nappa) was crash-tested for the US/Canada, so we had to go with this color.

7.) Is the interior the most costly part of the 25quattro's upgrade list?

Two thirds of the added cost for the 25quattro is the interior of the car, as it was hand-made.

8.) We spotted our first real-world 25quattro in the employee lot during a visit to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesen West home - an interesting backdrop. Who is buying the 25quattro vs. waiting for the RS 4?

Someone who wants a piece of history. They are getting a hand-made interior that is pure craftsmanship. Also, the front grille is hand-painted. It is a car that is commissioned much like a Bentley.

9.) Have you met any real world owners of the cars? What do they tell you about the car?

I was in Salt Lake City two weeks ago and met an S4 25quattro customer at Dave Strong Audi. The car had a blacked-out tint job on the windows and was stunning. The customer was really happy with it. The car's sound was great.

As stated earlier, the S4 25quattro is a hand-made car in the interior, exhaust, and front grille. The attention to detail in creating the special shift ****, VIN number took a lot of work. The 2007 DTM exterior package will get the cool diffuser around the exhaust pipes, but it will have the quad exhaust setup, not the big fat duals.

Not to mention the specially numbered, hand-crafted, oil-sucking gremlin in the engine...

So it sounds like the 2007 DTM kit will work since it handles the quad exhaust set up.
