S4 Durability and longevity?
Hi all,
I'm driving a 2000 S4, manual trans with no mods (yet [:@]). I leased this vehicle in 2001 and am very seriously considering buying it for the residual amount of $14000.00 in October when the lease is up. Currently, I have 65,000 ish on the car.
Lately, small things have been going out on the car: In Dash CD player won't read CDs (although I've cleaned the laser many times); center dash display is starting to fade; rear view mirror is starting to look like a lava lamp because the dimming fluid is low;driver's side window regulator needs to be replaced.
This past spring I spent a lot of cash replacing broken tie-rod ends and ball cup joints in the front end. Now I am told I need to replace the other ball cup joint, as well as the pads and rotors in the front brakes.
Yes, many of these items are wear and tear, and I don't have a problem paying the $1000 or so on top of the $14000 if I were sure I was getting a reliable vehicle. But, there's a part of me that is afraid I may be buying a money pit. At this rate, I'll never be abe to afford any mods
Thanks for your responses

RE: S4 Durability and longevity?
I have about 62500 on my 2001 and its been a continual issue of various repairs and such that has been quite frustrating. I love the car - but I wonder myself. If my turbos go and I am facing about $10K to replace it will be a real decision point...my wife is adament against! Just the other day I finally took the car in for the air con being out and while it was only a corroded switch somewhere in there it cost me about $250 - mostly just for diagnostics! So I don't know what to recommend - great car, but...
