Rear deck removal on B5
The link on the ultimate DIY thread with directions on how to pull the rear deck (package tray) doesn't work anymore. I need to replace a blown speaker, does anyone know of another writeup somewhere before I start poping clips and flexing plastic?

You pull the lower seat cushion off by lifting up at the front and pulling hard. Then you pull up and away on the side bolsters and they will come out. You then pull down the folding seats. Then you remove the plastic guards from the child seat anchors and unscrew the bolts under them. The deck is attached with three or four clips in the front which are hard to pull. Pull up on the deck or pry with your hand or screwdriver ( i cracked mine but its not visible at all if you do since the cloth covers it up). Once you get the clips out it will not come out because it is adhered partially. You have to slide your hand under it to peal it off from the metal part of the deck. Once it is loose it will slide out toward you and you can swing it down. You do not have to remove the seatbelts at all unless you plan to remove the deck out of the car.

One last thing. If you are keeping your stock headunit and are using aftermarket speakers and have a non bose car you have to reuse the amp which is attached to the driver's side rear speaker. You have to do this by removing the factory speaker by unscrewing it from the amp and then cutting the wires which attach the speaker to the amp. Then reattach them to the new speaker. Audi is retarded and they use all types of random color wires so you can never tell what is ground. If you dont have speaker polarity tester use your best judgement. Usually brown or solid green is ground but they throw a lot of curveballs in the b5 .[:@]

My 6" subs weren't actually blown. There is a rigid dust cover attached to the voice coil that had broken loose and was vibrating on the diaphragm causing a terrible noise. Removed the back deck enough to get my hand in there and remove that piece and my stock symphony is working great.

hahaha i disconnected the driver side "sub speaker" in the deck because it was rattling bad, you think with me being all into car audio and doing that for my job i would have something nice in there haha...
That was my old car. sweet system, but too heavy im a speed addict now.
