proper launch rpm

RE: proper launch rpm
Absolutely, I'm finding that to be the case also. To do the higher launch( 4 to 5) I've found that I'll start letting the clutch out in that 4 to 5 range, but by the time it is fully out, I let the rpms drop to the lower 3 range (insert light feathering here), anything else would require a clutch upgrade. You know, if you are doing this often, it's going to seriously degrade the life of the involved componants. Learn how to do it and then do what "abacab" does and "launch" at 900.

thanks for the input guys
sp4nk3r, i'm not doing that often, and to be honest, i think in the entire 8 months i've had the car, i think i've really taken off once...and that was when i had teh car a couple weeks and my friend just wanted to see how his car kept up...i don't do all that street racing stuff too risky for me, i just stick to driving intoxicated! jk...
thanks again for the input guys

Uhhh...Okay, I realized you don't even own an S4. If you did in the past, you definitely did not understand its powerband (and physical strength limitations).
The S4's peak torque begins at 1850 (stock) and stays with ya for quite a while... I would probably launch at 2000 ~ 2500 RPM at the highest.. No need for any higher than that, unless you can afford a new tranny or rear differential. If your upgrades include bigger turbos and you have strenghtened the drivetrain, you could always go a little higher than that to stain within the powerband.
Launching an AWD car at anything higher than 3500 RPM is risky business. The amount of stress this places on the drivetrain (it actually causes the driveshaft to twist out of specifications) can cause serious damage. For best performance, you should always learn your powerband and decide from there. There is no "static number" and it varies from car to car.
