New Headunit static
Hi i have a 2002 audi s4 that has bose and a few months ago my car was stolen. I got it back but ive had alot of things i need to replace. Ive been working on it and im almost done but the cd player was stolen out of the car. Well i then decided it would be cheaper to get an aftermarket headunit. I knew it would be a pain but the dealer just wanted too much. I rewired everything and its finally done but now i have static coming out of my speakers. Its not horrible but its still there. I can just increase volume to a point that i cant hear it anymore but is their anything i can do about that. If i bypass the amp for the speakers its still there but its alot softer. Should i just bypass the amp?? anyone done this before and have any ideas to help thanks alot.

RE: New Headunit static
I had a head unit that was installed on another car that did the same thing. The weird thing was that the static would change sound as the car revved up. When I took it back to the shop that installed it, they said they had a faulty ground and fixed it pretty quick, something you may want to check. When the thief stole your head unit, I bet they yanked on some of the wires. take free advice for what its worth...

I'm having similar problems with my stock unit...and I'm sure its the ground or something similar...just another thing on the list to fix...and I don't get to it because at least my car still runs...

RE: New Headunit static
well with the s4 the entire problem with putting in a new headunit is that the car has bose. that means that nobody makes a wiring harness so you have to wire yourself. Its not very complicated i just found a diagram that showed what everything was and did it myself. with the s4 their is a common ground, so all the speakers are grounded together and the headunit is grounded. Well this is connected and those wires go back to the amp which is then grounded. Has anyone done this before on an s4? i have seen so many pictures online of s4s with differant headunits so im sure they dont all have static.
