Default new guy here

hey whats up guys...today i just purchased a 2000 silver s4 with 6spd. it has 65k miles and im loving it! i also have a 2004 black lexus is300 5spd slightly modded...the only thing im not crazy about with the s4 is it has alot of wheel hop right now when im getting on it...it came with some tsw 19s on it with decent tires with decent tread left but they are only 35 series tires...pretty thing...im wondering if i switch to 18s with a 40 series tire if that would help?

Really? I don't believe you. Is the car stock? If so, there should be 0 hop, the car is AWD, & heavy.

My bet is the control arms are shot, along with the TRE & that is giving you the problem.

Only very big STG III cars have any kind of wheel hop.

im being serious...every now and then it hooks up fine but to be honest most of the time i get crazy wheelhop...i talked to my buddy with a evo and he told me with awd cars that are fast that its normal and thats hard for me to believe...you asked if the car was stock? to be honest im not 100% sure...i dont think it is because it seems very quick to me...i got a oil change and i asked the guy to check out the exhaust for me and he said the exhaust looked stock for the most part but he said it looked like they put on a aftermarket muffler and got rid of the cats...my car only has 65k miles and i wanna figure this out asap...i def dont think the 19s help but i dont think thats the main cause but i could be wrong.

Ok, so you are spinning all 4 tires? How are you doing this? You know if you are doing hard enough launches to brake all 4 loose, then your trans is not going to last long. Or, you just have **** tires, & or a lot of water. I need ice to break them loose.

Remove the front tires, & look at the arms, if any of the boots are torn, then they are shot, another way is to take a big monkey wrench & grab the arms, then push & pull really hard, if there is any movement there shot.

TRE= tie rod end, it's a known failure part.

FWIW, Getting wheel hop & spin in the EVO is very violent. You have to slip the clutch around 4500rpm's.

the wheelhop that i get isnt when im launching...its usually when im just driving and flooring it...it doesnt happen all the time but i would say maybe 80% of the time..

I think it's your tire rods. On a buddies truck the front hops when he launches hard but only for a few feet but his truck is making over 1000ft/lbs. of torque and 500hp, for a stock S4 its probably the tire rods and could also be the control arms.
