Engineering Perspective:
Well ya see guys, weight and horsepower work exponentially. So if I have half the weight, I need one quarter the horseposer. That is why a CRX only needs a tiny little 4 banger to go fast and my A6 avant needs to be an RS6 chipped to compare. That is why everyone cuts weight. A 460CI engine needs to pack a lot of power to beat a ricer etc. Now there is a little bit of a factorin there but that is a good rule of thumb (gearing and all that crap gets in the way).
SO if an SRT4 weighs say 1000 lbs less than an S4, yeah find a light way to beef up that horsepower gap (or rip out the leather seats and carbon fiber everything). (Oh and take physics).
PS The whole rice Acura vs A4 fight same thing, you can't expect to beat something lighter than you with a marginal horsepower difference. So like was already said, buy the Audi bacause it handles in the snow like a dream, it handles corners like none other, the seats feel good for those short trips across country, oh yeah and because they don't look or feel like something that is shaving every ounce.
