Default Need advice on buying a B6 2004 or 2005 S4

I need help on your comments/recommendations. I am about to buy this silver 2004 S4 with 25k miles on it. It is pretty loaded with options like navigation (the small screen between the speedometers), bose, power seats with memory, cd, etc. The seller is asking $32.3 for this car. The seller is claiming that the car has a clean carfax, and never been in an accident.

I am just a bit suspicuous as to why he is selling at such low price? Do you guys think $32.3 for a 2004 S4 pretty low? Another question that I have, will the remaining factory warranty transferrable to a new owner? And will i be able to extend the warranty through audi?

Thanks

ya that does seem pretty cheap, if i were u, id run a carfax. $32,000+ is a big investment, u dont want to spend that much on something that has a salvage title. and yes u should be able to transfer the warranty and u can get is extended through any audi dealer

Is carfax really that accurate? I dont really trust carfax: a friend of mine who has a car had a minor accident, someone backed in to his front bumper, but when we ran carfax, this incident did not get pick up by carfax

The seller is a licensed automobile dealer in New Jersey. I have not talked to him yet, so far we have been emailing back and forth. I am going to give him a call just to find out more about the car, why he is selling this car so low?

i think carfax didnt show that bc the car wasnt really a salvae title, i mean it was never totalled, the frame wasnt bend, no water damage, or stolen. thats when cars have the problem that u should be worried about, not a replaced bumper.

-well if he is licensed dealer i wouldnt be worried. He might be selling the car so low bc the markets down and gas is sky high so maybe that could be the reason. I would def try to talk to him face to face or at least a phone call. goodluck with everything, keep us posted

i dont know.. i dont think its that low. i looked at a 2004 when i was looking to get a car. this was back in last septermber and a guy was going to sell me his with a set of superleggra wheels and the stock wheels with 20k for 35. i mean, its on the cheap side, but not outrageous. The kbb value at fair is 32. good s 35. Thats for private party.

One thing to look out for is the early versions of the b6 like the first releases of the 04 was the engine would leak oil burn out and ruin the enigne.

Thanks guys for your comments! The seller called me and told me that he is willing to let the car go for $32k. The seller sounded genuine when I talked to him, but what do i know right? Anyways, if there is anything wrong the car is still under warranty by Audi until 50k miles or 4 years. The car is at 24,xxx miles right now.

Actually, I have been looking for a 2004 Nogaro Blue S4 with the black leather seats with the blue alacantra inserts. But, they are so hard to find around Philadelphia, PA, and from what I have been looking from autotrader, ebay, the Nogaro blue S4 with around 20k-30k miles are generally sold for $35k-$37k. Then, I came across this silver S4 online, and just could not help but notice how well priced the car is at $32k.

The price is so tempting! I think I'd rather be patience and wait till I find the S4 i want in Nogaro blue, even if it's going to be more than $35k. What do you guys think, is the Nogaro Blue really worth $4k-$5k more than the silver S4 I saw on the internet today?

I recently picked up a dark blue 2004 Audi S4. Its sweet and I talked the seller down from 37 to 35,500. I had him have the car checked out at the dealership and drove the car at red line several times before buying. The car performed and sounded beautifully. After buying the car in the early morning it would make a strange whistling sound that would go away completely after a few minutes. It didnt really bother me for a couple of weeks but then its became kind of annoying. I took it into Audi they took care of everything for free and I was back on the road in no time.

the low down

1 know the owner, trust the owner

2 know the car, test drive to red line

3 car fax

4 Audi dealer should inspect car

5 test drive in early morning at both low and high speeds Check all gears (at least 100mph but 155 is beter still) without stereo (but check stereo later)

6 Trust your instincts

Check for the car build date. S4s built before 10/2003 have reported a high number of engine problems.
Good luck.
