Is my 2004 S4 eating more gas than a HUMMER??

Is my 2004 S4 eating more gas than a HUMMER??
I just bought a 2004 CPO S4 with 37K miles and I LOVE the car but it has to be the worst gas guzzler I have ever owned. My previous 3 cars have been M3's(a 1997 and two 2002's) and those cars were not Prius-like in MPG but they were certainly better. Anyone else seem to think their MPG in the V8 S4 is insanely pathetic? I mean, I spent 120 miles on the highway the other day in 6th gear cruising at 80-85mph and I blew through a solid half tank of gas.
Thank God the car is gorgeous, fast and fun otherwise I would be regretting this purchase!

Cruising down the highway on long trips at 80 i can usually get about 260mi on 7/8th of a tank before i stop to fill up. Works out to about 18mpg or so. but in the city i average about 12!

If you are only getting 12 in the city, there is something wrong with your car. I have a 4.2 A6 which comes with the V8 and mine isn't near that bad. It was that bad when my CAT and mass air flow sensor was bad but now I'm no where near that bad.

I get around 14-15 mpg around town with lots of stop & go and hammer on acceleration (when able)...out on pure highway I can get low-mid 20s - even with 4 of us & luggage and cruising about 80-85+

According to the car computer, I've averaged 18.9 mpg for the life of the car. That is probably 90% highway. Dramatic difference if I keep the car between 55 and 65. At that speed the computer usually tells me I'm averaging 22-23mpg. This is in a 6mt. Very difficult to drive that conservatively all the time.
You might do a manual check of milage too, the computer can be off. I just filled up this morning, and got 20.4 mpg...but i have been driving really really conservatively.

yes.. the v8 s4s get horrible gas milage.. it is really sad.. i am with you.. i am usually getting 200-220 per tank.. mostly city driving with hard acceleration..

I've got an 05 B6 and I'm getting about 24 MPG on the freeway and that's cruising along at about 75-80mph. I'm sure if I actually went the speed limit it would be even better. I have to say. that aint too bad for a V-8.
