Default Manual or Tiptronic?

I love the stick, but in terms of daily driving (especially in heavy LA traffic) the tiptronic performs better. What do you prefer, and why?

Had an auto in L.A. too, but I like the manual on a performance car.

im definitly a fan of the manual but i voted the tiptronic, because right now its the best thing next to manual. since i only own one car i like the auto option for lots of driving.

I also think in the future tip is going to be how cars are run. human shift time is seconds slower then auto clutching.

Not yet... but I 'm sure you'll be right in the near future. When the auto-shifting technology gets smoother and more sophisticated, then human reaction and articulation will inevitably be slower.

But right now, for example, the auto S4 is slower than a manual S4 in 1/4 mile times.

I dunno. For it's like the auto is nice cuz you don't have to worry about anything, but with the manual, once you get used to it, it's almost like not having to worry about cuz the shifts are intuitive. Excuse me for getting all deep for the moment, but the shifts eventually become an extension of you.

Manual. It is more fun. My wife got a 5 series auto last year, her first automatic. She misses the stick and is not even any type of enthusist. I have been driving her car on occasion, obviously, and would not want an automatic, even with the tiptronic she has. I guess if you have the "real" auto shifting manual that Ferrari and a few others use, then it might be OK. But as long as it is a slushbox with a torque converter and delayed shifts... not interested.

I would have got a manual but wanted to learn how to drive an automatic! I heard that the auto performs better than the manual in terms of acceleration unless you 1. know how to do a perfect launch or 2. really kill the clutch. Is this true?
