Ko4 upgrade
Here's the deal: my tranny is shot so I'm getting a new one. Getting a RS4 clutch as well. My friend says that he can get me a pair of Ko4's for $1600. and since i'll be working on the tranny, it'll be easy access to the turbos, hence the turbo upgrade. but would i need a new fuel system for the car to manage the power? new downpipes? gaskets? hoses? etc. basically, what are the minimal requirements for the turbos to work well without killing my car, and spending too much money. thanks for the help.

RE: Ko4 upgrade
technically, you could just put the turbos on i believe and be fine. Now you wont be gaining any advantages by doing that other than reliability. But just putting them on should be fine, just not as efficient as it could be

I think that with a K04 upgrade, you will want to do some exhaust mods like piggie pipe downpipes (about 450 plus 600 install) you will probably need some new gaskets, a different intake, and certainly a chip. Look here for more detailed info:

RE: Ko4 upgrade
To get any performance advantage of the K04s you need fueling kit (which will allow more fuel & air thus more power), chip flash for K04 program (otherwise it meters everything as if you had K03s), and less restrictive downpipes (to allow the exhuast to flow at sufficient rate for air/fuel to push through the system). K04s running under stock or K03 program should run nearly effortlessly however not sure how rest of system will handle everything over the long term (could be just fine - I know you can run them without the fuel kit for instance) - but remember the chip thinks you have a different set of turbos in there that pass/compress different volumes of air per revolution of the turbos so not sure if it can adjust everything else properly or if it matters...

RE: Ko4 upgrade
i've already got a new exhaust system, all i need are new downpipes. so if anyone has any good experience with current downpipes let me know. i do plan on getting a chip and fueling kit, but i just don't know where to get a fueling kit from. so if anyone can help me with that too that would be great.

RE: Ko4 upgrade
fueling kit is usually packaged with K04s - though its possible to get each seperatly. Its not cheap btw...
"Piggie" pipes is an on the cheap type of (partial) solution. They do the trick in part (I believe they involve moving the cats back using the stock Audi dps) - but IMO it seems worth it to get AWE/APR or ASP dps - they apear to be able to pass much more air and are very slick and sleek.

yes, youd prob need some additional piping to get them to fit correctly. Howevre, you DONT NEED anything else to actually run it. like i said before, yes, fuelling, downpipes, chip will actually give you your performance to run your k04's efficiently. An intake is definately not needed. Most intakes for the s4 have not relaly shown any gains, as the stock airbox is pretty free flowing. youd be fine to just replace the filter with a higher flowing filter like k&n.
think of it like this.. say youve got a shoppping cart with very rusty wheels that you push at 5 mph. You tkae it home and oil the wheels so they can spin very fast. but all you do is still push the cart at 5 mph. Same kinda thing. The cart could now go very fast.. but your not pushing it.

i am getting the turbos seperately from the fueling kit. like i said before, a guy i know can hook me up with a pair for 1600. and getting an entire kit from awe or apr will run me about 8 grand, which is something that i don't really have yet. hopefully i can get the fueling kit and new downpipes by this summer. i think it'll be a great summer if i can do that.
