Default klunking and wobbling

last night i drove my b5 s4 about 300 miles. coming home i all of a sudden had a bad wobble and klunking sound coming from the front at about 40 mph. i pulled over and couldnt see anything wrong. tried to drive off and it really sounded f-ed up underneath like the tranny was broke but wobbled like a flat tire. i limped with my hazards on for a while. after about 30 minutes it started to smooth out and once i got over 60 mph it was fine and i cruised on home. this morning the car acted perfectly fine. what the f?

Prolly wouldn't be loose lugs since it evened out after a while, but definitely check them.

Did it get any worse when you hit a bump or turned the steering wheel?

Maybe a motor mount or a wheel bearing that could be going out, but fixing itself seems to be a mount that is broken then wedged itself into place.
