Help! 04 S4 timing belt broke...chances for reimbursement?
Sad day Heard some sounds, battery light came on, just got my 2004 S4 to a repair shop.
After that, it wouldn't even start up. Repair man calls to say that the timing belt broke and he's doing a full assessment of the damages.
Through Google I see that it can run anywhere from $5k and up depending on the extent of the damage.
Seeing as my S4 is only at 76k miles, and seeing that the timing belt is a common problem, what are the chances of me getting some sort of reimbursement for repairs?
Unfortunately my car doesn't fall within the guidelines of the previous class action lawsuit 1999-2003 A4 and TTs. But I have read some owners having success getting half or all of their repairs reimbursed.
Any advice you have is greatly appreciated.
Off to see if I can sell a kidney (or two).

that is odd.... the chain is rated for about 200,000 miles..... you should be good with just replacing the head... most of the valves would have gotten bent.. but block will be fine... it's a lot of work though... sorry to hear that... i'd still say audi needs to step in here

the very early build date 2004s had a problem with the cam chain tensioner, where the car would still run but eventually the valves would hit the pistons because the chain skips links. There is a guy in town who had this happen and AOA gave him a new engine
