DIY basic tune up question-
Well, I'll be taking the car in a few months for a timing belt change...
but in the mean time wanted to do some basic DIY tune up stuff (ie: spark plugs, fluids, cabin filter,)
any other tips or suggestions while im fiddling around under the hood?
car is about to hit 80k

RE: DIY basic tune up question-
do the timing belt replacement yourself. you can find a complete timing belt kit at ecstuning.com. the only audi specialty tool you shall need is a cam lock bar. this way you will be saving a TON of money.

RE: DIY basic tune up question-
I think you should try to negotiate the price down with an indy first, regarding the Timing Belt change. Also, post where you live here and on Audiworld, and ask for the best shop in your area. I think with some diligence and negotiating, you can get this job done for the 700-800 range, rather than accepting that it just costs $1200 no matter what you do.
Then, the question is would you rather pay someone 700-800, or pay 250 + cam locking bar (there was just one on here for $100, but I think they cost a bit more than that usually) + any tools you don't have.
I decided to have the job done by someone else. Got TBelt maintenance with parts, valve cover gasket change with parts, and oil change for $1,000.
IF you decide to do it yourself, go to this link http://homepage.mac.com/edyjun1/S4/index.htm. That page is amazing. Do a search for timing belt, and there is a whole write up on it.
Good luck either way!

RE: DIY basic tune up question-
its not a tune up your doing its a main service, if you intend doing the timing belt do the tensioners and water pump regardless if they need doing (peace of mind) if the water pump goes you will wish you listened unless its been done not so long ago
