RE: Dim head lights
yes, i believe ours are 4300... i think some mercedes or bmw might be a bit higher... But the peak light output is around the 5k mark.. I cant remember exactly if its like 4900 or what exactly..but after its just going down hill..so actually 8000k arent bright at all...
Your bulbs might be dying and not ouputting what they used to..could always get new ones..or upgrade to a more powerfull ballast, 55w instead of 35w.

4500k is the brightest known color temperature, but 4300k is the closest available bulb. Anything after 4800k takes a violent turn for the worst. Your bulbs are dim because over the course of a few years, the salts and metals inside can't burn anymore. Just get youself some new stock bulbs.
And get rid of those ricerific 8000k in your truck. HID's are not meant to go in halogen housings, you are blinding people. Plus, 8000k's are blue, which means eye fatigue, and it also means you are using the shortest wavelength light for bad weather driving. They really are unsafe.

RE: Dim head lights
the higher the kelvin # the less bright the light emits, but also the color changes from hotter to colder thats a change in color. I'll explain it:
Take a 4300k system from a s4 your going to have a white light that emits about a 3000 lumens light, take a 6000k system the system gets colder you'l,l get more of a blueish tint in that system but will only produce about 2750 lumens of light. take a 10000k and you'll have a purple tint emittting, but you'll only get about 2200 lumens of light. Regardless of the amount of lumens you get your gonna be brighter than a halogen always but the higher the Kelvin # the less amount of light and lumens it will procude and the color will get colder from yellow to white to blue to purple to violet. allrighty!

Do you have pics of your chevy headlights with the new stuf in them?? Not questioning your integrity, but, the only RIGHT way to do it is to retrofit a set of factory HID projectors into the stock headlights. Heres a pic of my show car with a set of AcuraTL projectors installed.
