Default darintake advantage

ok so i was doing some searching and i know that unless you go stage III nothing more than just the darintake mod is really needed, as far as intake goes. But im wondering before stage III what does a darintake accomplish? from my understanding im guessing it just allows more air in but would it have any power advantages to a stock s4? and can you just drill some holes or is it recomended to do the whole piping and filter swap too?

allright, so i read that its bad to put in a K&N for some years because of the oil but i heard that it was fine in an 01.5, is that true?

no.. pre 2001.5 and 2001.5 use the same MAF sensor and the oil will effect them both.

2000 used a bosch MAF which did not mix well with the K&N oil. 2001 and newer switched to the Hitachi MAF, which is generally accepted to be better. The oil wont bother the Hitachi MAF, i have had K&N for a year and a half with no problems and so have many other people.

K&N and darintake is all youll ever need untill stage 3. Comparable to other intakes that cost big bucks.

ok cool, thats what i had heard. so basically just drill a good couple of holes in the low part of the box(how many and what drill bit size?) and get a K&N filter. should i just get a filter that fits the box or should i do that piping mod and get a cone shaped filter?

u can do either or with the darintake. it's easier to just get the k&n, but if u want to do a little project, check out the DIY threads.

Oil will effect any MAF. Just don't over oil it. I have a K&N in mine so trust me, Im not putting down K&N. If you over oil your filter expect a lean code or something along those lines.
