CEL - code P0118
I did a search & looks like its the Engine coolant. temp sensor...
saw a few links on how to replace HERE
and was wondering if anyone thought this would fix the problem - (CEL)
(although Im not experiencing any of those issues w/ temperature guage being erratic etc.)
apparently this part is cheap to replace (I read between 10-20$) but autozone says it's $45??
any suggestions? in your opinions - is this the right write up for that code.....

RE: CEL - code P0118
DTC: 16502
P-Code: P0118
Description: Engine Coolant Temp.Circ High Input
I had to change it last summer, it was throwing codes and this one in particular.
It was an easy fix, took me less than 30min to install. Buy the part at your local
VW, Audi repear shop. You should not pay more than 20 $ unless your getting screwed.
Good luck

RE: CEL - code P0118
check at www.ecstuning.com under B5 S4 "water temperature sensor"
it will get you there 5.95 $
Be careful when you remove the plastic C clip, because i did break mine
when i did the job. It's a 0.50 $ part, but when you dont have it stock ...

RE: CEL - code P0118
in response to your PM the coolant temp sensor is held in place with a metal clip if you look at the sensor you will see a groove and this has to line up when its fitted in the aperture so you need to ensure is pushed in all the way other wise it will blow the sensor out (its basic common sense) other things to consider about the P0118 are the thermostat sticking which also causes this code and a short to ground of the live wire causes it, check the wires and connections first and change the stat plus new coolant at least then you have survived the system for the future
