Toolin' along on the highway when the car lost power... running but sluggish. Headed home and as I got to my driveway clouds, huge clouds, of white smoke came out the pipes. Shut down the engine and called Audi assistance.

What could it be? turbos, bpv's, engine gasket?

Uh ohhhs............... turbos.
Since you lost power, it's more than likely the turbo lady.

If you didn't have such a power loss, it could be a coolant leak - a blown headgasket would let coolant into the combustion chamber.

BTW...

Well, thganks for the thoughts. The car is under warranty so it should be less painful. I really like the darn thing. Drives like a bat out of hell, yet is the most comforting and forgiving car I've owned. Mind you, I used to drive Porsches, and I mean it, you have to DRIVE them. Not very forgiving... The S4 feels like a tank on steroids.

White smoke = turbo seals are gone or going/turbos crappin out on you.

And I have to thank the Supraforums.com for that info.

But its the same on every car.

good luck with it.

I had this problem on my VR4 twin turbo the white smoke is probably coolant getting past the thrust bearing and into the exhaust. The perfect excuse to order the KO4's from APR or ECS.

AUDI rocks.
They replaced both turbos, and the converter...

Except now the car bucks like a bronco when it gets to 4000rpm... switches gears without notice or logic, especially 3rd and 4th (Tiptronic) whether in manual shift or Auto shift... little scary. Someone told me it may be the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Any thoughts?
