Black Smoke....HELP!

RE: Black Smoke....HELP!
when you have it parked and rev it up, does it smoke then? and if so, what does it smell like? i'm somewhat going with the purple blueish color sooks was talking about (oil somewhere in the mix), but i'm leaning more towards fuel/oil mix. possibly bad rings.

nah, I don't get any smoke when parked and revving. I've been going about 10 minutes or so of fairly hard driving - not killin' it though, b4 it starts. It's also just smoking in the upper rev ranges - over 3 or 4k - and at these rpms there not a whole lot of power coming thru.

just making sure i understand; parked and reving with no smoke, is the engine warmed up or car been driven? that's why i said rings. once the engine is stablized, that's when you should see it. it won't be a lot, and you shouldn't see your oil level drop dramatically, this is just a miniscule gap for the oil to escape through.

Above and beyond this problem, I want to advise you that you should let the car warm up before you really get into it at all. It sounds like you are driving it hard before the warm up. By warm up, I mean at least one notch on oil temp, and I don't go above 3k rpm. I have no idea if this is what caused your problems, but it will cause problems in the future if you don't warm up.

YEah, I'm getting the temp up to normal (or mid-way on the gauge) b4 getting into it, and it'll drive ok for the 1st 10 or so minutes after that. Then it starts it's smokin nonsense. It's drivin me nuts - been wanting an s4 for the longest time and now that I have one it ain't playing nice I'm hoping it's nothing too serious and can be straighened out by the dealer tommorrow.
