Default B5 S4 triptronic strength?

Im finally getting ready to take the plunge and pick up a cpo 2000-2002 s4 my only issue is all the s4's for sale are all triptronic
I keep hearing the trip is a particularly weak tranny and will not hold up to much modding
Ive been searching the web and can't seem to find any specifics into what the breaking point is for the automatic

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? As for plans the most i would probably do to the car would be chipped and full exhaust with downpipes. Will the auto hold up with that kind of power in the long term.

Another consideration is I am an automatic person but if the trip isn't going to hold up ill wait for a stick but the way its looking sticks are pretty hard to come by but the autos seem to be moderatly easy to find.

125 mile search on audi's cpo page came up with 6 s4's all automatic.

That brings me to another question do the sticks bring a premium or are their values relatively the same as the autos?

thanx in advance

the thing is there are no sticks around here at all. So the tranny can hold up to chip and a full exhaust in the long term? If I go with the s4 i plan on keeping it a long long time. Im coming from an 03 v6 stang so im sure even a stock auto will give me a nice smile on my face

I own a trip `04 S4. I also live in Lake Tahoe...for those of you who don't know, we are high up, and driving down the hill to reno is very bad on brakes...especially on most automatics. I have found that descending down the hill using 3rd and 2nd gears at times is very helpful and STRONG. Cornering turns is way easier, and brakes don't smell as well. My father owns an `02 porshe 911 turbo tiptronic and...in my opinion, the audi tip feels much better and reacts quicker. I found that surprising. Anyway it also helps in the snow, which we have plenty of. Driving in second gear during a blizzard minimizes slipping and keeps the car at a safe speed. Manual would be ideal, but for those who want the best of both worlds...like me, go with tip.

im looking at cpo's mainly since i anticipate keeping the car a long time. Im in no way knocking the car but with the turbo issues it makes no sense for me to buy from a private party
