I am in the market for an Audi. I briefly had a B7 A4 2.0T quattro 6spd and loved it. Unfortunately Carmax pulled some really shady stuff so I returned the vehicle.

Anyway, I test drove a B5 S4 and noticed some pretty interesting things.
- It didnt seem any quicker than the B7 A4. I did not hear any whistle noise from the engine bay.
- The road noise was significantly more than the B7 A4

Caveat to this S4 is that it was a salvage title. it was lowered and had after market rims and tires. With all that said, I still expected the S4 to be quicker.

You guys have any thoughts?

 

1. That's not a good sign. When I got my hands on my B5 S4, the acceleration was just short of terrifying, bone stock. And the whistling of the turbos should be very distinct. Again, bone stock, mine screamed.

2. Road noise is a bit more considering they're over 10 years old. Keep the moon roof cover closed. It helps.

Basically, I'd keep shopping. I definitely recommend the B5 S4, but probably not a salvage unless it's done REALLY well.

 

ehh.. whats the power levels from the factor on the B7 2.0? stock 2.7 is 250 and 260 (chp/ft.lbs)... so im assuming the b7 couldnt be that far off and possibly weighs less..

 

The 2.0T is at about 200hp and 210lb/ft I believe. It does weigh about 200 lbs less though. Still, the S4 should definitely not feel slower.

that s4 that was test driven was possibly abused and needed work.... lower profile tires also add to road noise also tire choice has a lot to do with that... 10 year old weather strips also have a lot to do with it, lol.... find another and go for test drive =) great cars
