B5 s4- need info on sputtering/loss of power
Looking for info from more knowledgeable members than i... On my way home from work i noticed a major problem with my 2000 s4 (114,000 miles). I dont seem to have ANY pull through the RPM range where i normally felt my turbos the most. When i got off of the highway, i shut the car down, restarted and started down a back road. When i punched the gas and hit about 3000-3500 rpms i heard a erratic sputtering sound and lost MAJOR power!!!
After that i drove the car normally (not speeding) feeling no pull from my turbos. I heard them spooling normally but no thrust. When i smashed the gas, again, it sputtered when it shoud be boosting, again. Anybody with any ideas who would like to share??? Im heading to the STEALership tomorrow and would like to have an idea on whats wrong. Im thinking MAF, Coil packs, boost vales/piping or ... TURBOS are going!!!

I bet its a bad MAF sensor. The car will drive normal until you floor it and then it will feel like power just cut out. I would compare it to someone hitting the brake really hard. I have had to replace a bad MAF at least 6 times in my life and every time, its the same trend. Drives normal till you wanna boost hard, then the power cuts out when you jump on the throttle. I dont think its a bad coil because when that happens the car becomes basically immobile. You can tell you have a bad coil when you pop the hood and get a huge whiff of fuel because all that gas is trapped in the cylinder not getting ignited. Good luck man. Let us know what you find out.
