Yes, test pipes are just straight pipes that replace the cats.

Any car will be louder with test pipes.

I went with a custom exhaust. 3 inch pipe from the Y back with a single flowmaster muffler. Yeah, it's got a mullet muffler but it sounds good IMO.

While it sounds great, the tip just looks wrong, it just looks cheap to me.

Why not cut the exhaust back a little & add a nice tip, or duel tips?

To me it should not only look cool, but sound cool. If I see a single tip on a S4, my thoughts
are it's a A4 1.8 with fake badges.[&o]

IMHO,Apexi on a S4 is r!ce. Sorry but a big single outlet hanging down low is just cheap, it's even worse if you have AWE DP's.
Yeah - I see why you would think that - but I like the look - I think it really works with the Avant..

ORIGINAL: 2k S4You will gain performance from changing it to a cat back just for the bigger pipes over the stock. But if your happy with it, then
that's what counts.
Yeah - I wonder if I'll notice any gains...I'm actually thinking if going to test pipes at least for a stretch - just to try them out and think about my options...

There is NO DRONE anywhere with the ASP exhaust. Avants are the ones who have some droning problems with cat backs. I know the AWE Twin 1 is one of them.
ASP is a little louder them AWE T2 or Miltek.
Drone w/ASP - just what I heard. From your vid and others I've seen (never knowingly have I heard ASP pipes in person) - sounds great. Similar intensity (perhaps just a bit louder) - but slightly different sound that what I currently get.

Regardless though - it would seem that my days with the Apexi are numbered...shame - I really do like the exhaust...lol

I'm surprised your system doesn't drone.

You know the cats are in the DP's, if you add test pipes you will have to cut up the DP's.

If your happy with it, then that's all that counts. Our opinions are our own.

I like that single tip look, some S4's pull it off nicely. I read an artice in Sport Compact Car (it's not a ricer magazine, it's actually extremely insightful and the best car performance mag out there) they featured a private owners SCCA 2000 S4, stock paint, no decals really, so it had anice street look. He had a 4 inch single tip and it looked bitchin. I'll try to post the article later.

no - not at all - its very quiet - I'd prefer at bit more presence at time! lol

I don't know how this works. My shop seemed to think test pipes (which I have already - ordered with the AWE DPs) would just connect where the exhaust currently does. What do you mean by "cut up"?

Yeah.. hey let me try to post a pic....see what you (& Mott) think

Damn, I would have killed for an Nogaro S4 Avant. I watched for 5 months and never found one (that wasnt over $20k).

I dunno, I kinda like the single tip on the AVANT. A single tip can look pretty sick.
