According to the specs in the model guides on AudiWorld, the 2004+ S4 have a 4.2 litre V-8 putting out 340 hp and 302 lbs of torque. My 2002 S6 has a 4.2 litre V-8 putting out 340 hp and 310 lbs of torque. The only difference I could see was the new S4's take a whopping 11 quarts of oil, the S6 takes 8.

The S8 had the same size engine but was rated at 360 hp and 317 lbs.

The non-S version 4.2's were 300 hp and 295 lbs of torque. The new standard version of the 4.2 are rated at 335 hp and 310 lbs.

The new S cars will have V-10's at 450 hp and nearly 400 lbs. [sm=drooldude.gif]

That's what the spec sheet on the AudiWorld Model Guides says. More oil is better and it will last longer but 11 quarts seems a bit over the top.

 

The new style 4.2 takes 9 quarts not 11 that person was a moron

And your engine is the old style V8 if you get a chance look at the engine in a newer S4 its way different

Mainly the fact it has no timing belt but instead has timing chains in the rear
