Audi s5 distinctive sound
I have just purchased a new 2011 s5 automatic prestige pkg, can anyone explain to me (as I have never owned any audi prior) why they sound the way they do? I have the sport diff. It sounds as if it is almost like the car needs to be tuned when accelarating. I am not sure if it is just the way it is supposed to sound, only has 500 miles on it no engine lights on running good.

the s5 coupe is a naturally aspirated v8 with a very nice exhaust system. it also has a huge air intake. as a result, you will hear some air and some engine in the cabin. i think it is probably the air that you're not used to. But if you've never driven a v8 before, you may not know what it's supposed to sound like. It will sound less strained than a 6 or 4 at speed.

Okay, anyone made any progress on this. After hearing what sounds like large pebbles hitting the windshield many times but realizing that wasn't it, I'm starting to get frustrated. Today, I heard 2 loud cracks that sounded like plastic cracking or snapping. I have a 2012 S5 Cabriolet. After hearing these noises more than a few times, I decided to come home and google it. My Audi has 3500 miles on it and I've had zero problems. But seeing (via this forum) that someone is inquiring about the same noises at least eases my mind that it isn't just me. Anyone else? Anyone have an answer or a "phrase" to start with so I can have the dealership look into it? My guess is that service has heard of this before unless there is a common theme, they'll just turn me away.
