245's on an s4?

RE: 245's on an s4?
Keep in mind that the width of the tire can vary significantly between manufacturers. You'd think a 245 would always be 245 mm wide, but I've seen 215's where the treadwas wider than a 225.
So a definitive answer is not really possible unless someone has tried the the specific tire vendor and size combination you are considering.
Also, what width rim are you planning to mount these on? I would think a 245 on an 8" rim might actually perform worse than a 235 because of the way the sidewall would be pinched.
Just food for thought.

With a 7.5' wheel you can wrap a 255 on it, however, you need to check a wheel calculator for profile. 245, in my opinion is too wide in front. I have 235 in the front with rolled fenders. I barely get by, If you roll and flare you can do it. I have personally seen 255 in the front with 18' wheels +30 offset and tires with a perfect profile. This s4 had custom flaring.

When I got my car it had 245/40/17's on it. They didn't rub and where pirelli nero's. I went back to the 235-45's for ride quality. But they seemed to fit on mine no problem. Also lowered about 3/4" and have bilsteins, so you may well have even a little more clearance.

Tough to say... here is the math though:
stock is 225/45/17
225x .45x 2 = 202.5
covert from metric to standard: 202.5/25.4 = 7.972 + 17 (wheel diameter) = 24.972 overall diameter
your application:
245/40/17
245 x .4 x 2 = 196
196/25.4 = 7.71 + 17 = 24.71
Width difference is 3/4" but shoulder should sit just over 1/8" lower. Good luck.

the rubbing also has a lot of due with what suspensions you are running.
If your stock there is a little more fender turning clearance then a lowered car.
Stock tires are 225 all the way around. So 245 is pushing it.
