2001 S4 Bose system

RE: 2001 S4 Bose system
the problem with the "hidden" mod of the bose system is that A. the ability to switch the EQ is only within a few HZ perameter. B. there are litterally thousands of combinations that you can adjust.. and the "right" settings for one may not be the right settings for another. Plus all the mod does (should you set it "correctly", being that it is not a flat line) is add a little more kick to the lower frequencies and boost the higher freqs. you must know exactly how you would like your Bose system to sound
and a comment on scarzies post...you do not need to remove the rear woofers.. An alternative that I have used is to mount the Amplifier on the back of the left rear seat (the seat behind driver) and simply fold the seat down...this is good for 2 reasons..
A. if your amp is of smaller peak wattage you can cool the amplifier quickly with the seat down
B. the bass flows nicely into the car (and evenly)

so flabunt, your saying you just plugged your rca lines directly to the back of the bose deck?
So how many sets of preouts does the stock deck have exactly?
just curious because i will get a audio shop to slap me in a 12 inch sub while it is there for tint if this is the case. I dont want to have to get a new deck, i like the stock bose stuff and i dont like having to do the rca converter thing because that always sounds half ***.

1st... correction i should not have dissed the hidden eq mod cuz it actually does work well (after extensive time screwing with the settings) i should have said that it is not vital to do
2. there ARE 4 pre-amp outputs available for external amplifiers, subwoofers, etc
3. you dont need the RCA converter: in place of rca line level output cables to the amp, Bose/Audi uses standard, un-sheilded and un-modified, thin-gauged, automotive harnesses - the same as all the other harnesses on the vehicle.

I totally agree with you flablunt. Taking the stock subs out is just one method (def not hte best, but keeps everyhting seemingly stock, and still allows bass to get through, but not the most efficient), but the eq mod does make this thing sound like a whole new system compered to stock (but still not AMAZING or anything like that).

Did u look at the DIY on audiworld??? that was a really good setup for me, makes everything sound really clear, and gives the stock subs better bass response. Ill actually go find it right now...
