Default 2000 S4 Problems

Hey guys I just purchased a 2000 B5 S4 with 72,000 miles on it. The performance on this car is very sketchy at the moment. Sometime pulling off from a light it will pull hard in 1st til about 5k rpm and then loose boost and then upon shifting to second it will emmit a small cloud of smoke from the exhaust. Also from time to time when u take off it seems that the turbos never spool and it feels very slow and underpowered. It is currently being looked at since it's under a 3month 3,000 mile warranty. Would the car behave this way with bad turbos or could it just be a boost leak somewhere. Any help is definitely appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like a boost leak to me. Maybe the diverter valve? Is it throwing an codes?

No codes. Would a bad turbo even allow the car to idle and drive? It idles fairly smooth.

My thought was boost leak as well. I would not say its the turbo. If it was the turbo youd know it.... as also you wouldnt be getting any boost if it was gone... Not sure what the smoke would be.... hard to say without some more symptoms.. obviously some sort of oil leak.

The puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust on a hard shift. The boost seems to die at about 5k when taking off in first. The turbo appeared to be leaking oil but the dealer claimed it was the valve cover gasket dripping on the turbo.

Dealer just told me that there is a bad MAF and also an autothority chip in the car causing it's problems. Does that sounds accurate to you guys?

If you have a bad MAF it could be your boost problems.. There still has to be a leak somewhere though to be getting the smoke i think. Dont know where the chip would be giving you problems.
