1998 s4 ECU same as 2000 US s4???
i have a 1998 s4 made in 11-98 in germany, it has 195kw(265ps), silver with bleu alcantara seats, it's one of the firrst i think.
is my s4 at all aspects (ECU,transmission, coilovers etc) the same as a 2000s4 from the us?
are also giac ecu's for a manual 2000s4 good for mine?
and we drive 98 oct here at the pump, this doesn't make a problem cause i read about 91-93 an 100 octane maps?

I htink urs is actually a 1999 not a 98 it just has a build date in 98. and yes a B5 S4 ran from 99-03. However the 99 wa sonly in europe and the 03 is extremely rare, somehting liek 20-30 of them made or something i read.

it's build in 11-98 and first on the road in 1999 yes.
i was asking this because every site i see and alle the performance and other parts say 2000-2002 s4 so iwas just wondering
i know i have early model offcourse with no esp and i have xenon head lights but not in one piece.
so GIAC upgrades for a 1999-2000 s4 would just fit mine ok that's fine!

you should be looking at european tuning companies instead. the ecu is tuned slightly different and the exhaust is different. thats why the EU S4 has 265 hp, and the US has 250. There are many tuning companies, like MTM, that make specific perfomance parts for the EU S4. just search the web.

i know all these companies, searched every damn site there is. but sometimes nice ecu upgrades and stuff are for sale here and that's whey i was wondering if i could use GIAC or a APR ecu upgrade to swap with my ecu.
so to make it short:
1998 EU s4 195kw ECU out and 2000s4 GIAC tuned ECU in and playtimeeeeeeee or not ???

they do not do it for lower taxes...its purely and emission thing.
i would get in contact with GIAC or APR directly to find out, but i doubt it will work. may cause a few issues.
if it were me, id just get the MTM for the EU model....that way you know you wont have any issues. plus, its a better chip

i found this on APR site , doesn't this mean i just have the same car but it came out a little later in america???
APR Tuning Products for the Audi B5 - S4
Current Lineup Information
The second generation S4 debuted in 1997 as part of the B5 platform A4 line-up, although it wasn't available in North America until year 2000. The B5 S4 had a 2.7 L, twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 265 PS (195 kW/261 hp) in European trim. The engine was slightly detuned to meet US emissions regulations, and power stopped at 250 hp (186 kW) in North America. In addition to the sedan, a wagon version, the Audi S4 Avant, was introduced into the lineup from 1998.
The S4 claims acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds and had an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), making it both the quickest sedan in the Audi model line and among the quickest sedans in the world at that time. As in the previous S4, a six-speed manual transmission was standard equipment, as was the quattro all-wheel-drive. A five-speed Tiptronic transmission became available for the first time as an option. Production ceased on the B5 S4 in 2001 although it was still sold together with the next B6 platform generation through 2002 in North America.[/align]

RE: 1998 EU s4 same as 2000 US s4?
is there another place that can help me with this cause seems no one can give me a good input.
it would seem stupid to change ECU's just for 15bhp power loss in us, it is done here for taxes also, not only emission cause you can buy
330d coupe with 211bhp and 231bhp, on the first you pay like2500€ tax the first time and the 231 you pay 5000€
but that aside, i mailed both apr and giac to hear what they say , hope they give me a quick response!
