Default 1971 Chevelle SS 454 vs. 2001 S4

I'm getting ready to race my buddies SS this Friday night. I know I've got him on top speed, but getting there is a different story. I've seen him pull the front wheels off the ground. It's a pretty mean car. I'm gonna try to get some videos.

1/4 mile time on the SS?

What are your mods?

If he's lifting the front and it hasn't been lightened then don't bother racing him. You'll lose.

But if it's lightened and only has a new stock 454 crate then you should be pretty competitive. (Assuming you are 6 speed)

Can you give some more details on his mods, if any?
Traction bars aren't **** you can buy them at Autozone, they are just a band-aid for cars still running leaf springs.
What size rear tire does he have?
What rear gear does he have?
Transmission?
Any Engine Mods?........

Bench racing is pretty lame regardless.
If you want to know who's quicker, then race.
If you have to be sure you can beat him before you race because can't stand the thought of defeat then maybe you shouldn't be racing questionable cars. There will always be someone with a faster car, bottom line.

Your question is pretty open-ended without the details.

As far as I know it is a stock 454 crate engine from Jasper Engines. I don't remember if it was the 396 or the 454 that he had in it when he pulled it up. It wasn't way off the ground, but it was enough. He has 2 inch body spacers in the back. He just put new tires on the back. But they are not that much bigger and they are not slicks or anything like that. I think he has a 4 speed in it. I have no idea on the gears.
I have a Tip (I already know). I've told him he will probably beat me. I know what I am drivin against. I ain't afraid to lose to him. I was just wondering what other people had to say about it.

I know I have a long shot of beating him. I know he tops out at around 100. It's pretty much just a *****-n-giggles race. I had the fastest car in the parking lot and then he got this. We have just never had a chance to run em. I'm just interested to see how I do.

Well if he only tops out at 100 mph, then he must have a extremely low rear gear (5.xx) .

He wouldn't be able to even run a full 1/4 mile at full tilt before he tops out.

He'll definitely have you on a launch with a gear that low and all that torque.

But if your still racing after YOUR car shifts out of 2nd gear, he'll be out of breath by then.

Good Luck and be safe! Let us know what happens

Well, he told me around 100. I'm sure its gonna be above that. I know he is just hustlin me, but i can't pass up a race with that. I haven't really seen him run wide open though. I'm hoping to be at least within a car length. I honestly don't know what to expect. I'll try to get a video of it. Should I leave it in auto or shift it with the tip?
