Real horsepower

RE: Real horsepower
im not an expert, but from what i know, it puts over 420 at the crank and less at the wheels. You lose horsepower in the transfer to the wheels because of a few reasons. Car companies always say the HP at the crank to make you think that its powerful and beleive me, the RS4 is freaking powerful. But if you had dynoed, it would only dyno probably at 380-390 at the wheels becuase of the loss between the drivetrain and the wheels! plus being AWD, more wheels to spread that loss out.
of course i could be completely wrong but thats what i know.

RE: Real horsepower
Your right "myaudi98", there is more HP at the crank and less at the wheels. Its usually 20-30 HP less to the wheels from the crank on all cars. The RS4 is still incredibly powerful as you mentioned. I also wanted to add how stable this car is, when I am doing 60 it truely feels like 30! Also, this car loves top end in terms of output and control. Can't beat its muscle or feet for a stock model vehicle @ the price is sells for.

RE: Real horsepower
20%....No Way! Its got to be more around 8-12%. That makes me want to take it to an all whell drive dyno very soon if what you are saying is true. I hope I get the same suprise that I did with my WS6 T.A.! When I had it dyno'd-the wheel HP came out at 380! When I bought it "said 320". The reason was mainly for insurance purposes. This was back in the fall of '99-close to the final year the TA was in production-hints They (pontiac) wanted to sell as many as possible. After dropping a Borla exhaust, 373 gear ratio and a few other mods, it was def faster than my RS 0-80....after 80, the RS would start to pull away I believe. Oh, How I love true american muscle but, nothing compares in overall engineering to my RS FYI..

RE: Real horsepower
I think most RWD dynos use a 15-18% wheel-crank conversion factor. So 20% for the quattro is somewhat believable, but it's a number I saw from a shop that had dyno'd many quattros so perhaps legit, but maybe not! Only a real dyno pull will tell though. C'mon Trev, your car's broken in now, right?!
