You're thoughts on ATT, and I'm not talking about the phone company...

If you own firearms, I'd hope you're fully aware of this, but how do you guys think this arms trade treaty thing will pan out?
Spotlight is on controlling things on a federal level, but there's fine print floating around in there about controlling civilian firearms/ammo as well.

I think that it, as well as LOST, are terrible ideas. I just did a quick read up on it on Wikipedia and it gave the treaty's purpose, etc. From article:
"It would ensure that no transfer is permitted if there is substantial risk that it is likely to:
be used in serious violations of international human rights or humanitarian law, or acts of genocide or crimes against humanity;
facilitate terrorist attacks, a pattern of gender based violence, violent crime or organised crime;
violate UN Charter obligations, including UN arms embargoes;
be diverted from its stated recipient;
adversely affect regional security; or
seriously impair poverty reduction or socioeconomic development."
I feel that any group of people on that same page can pull any of these excuses out of their asses to block arms exportation and put pressure on the U.S. to lift the 2nd Amendment.

In trying to block/ban firearms, at least in the US, I have a feeling a lot of guns will be raised against the federal govt. if this treaty as any "success" (i use that term loosely).
I have no idea how this is gonna turn out, but the fact that it's even on the table has me feeling very uneasy.
Time to start burying things in the back yard....
Crap... Im on the boat... I don't have a yard...

I'm definitely a bit concerned about how the treaty can be interpreted. it is just another example of an admirable "idea" that can/will have unintended consequences if it comes to pass. I fear that if we (the US) sign the treaty it opens the door to encroachment on our rights as guaranteed by the Second Ammendment.
I don't have much in the way of a yard, but I definitely have the means to defend it.
