ive only used my xbox vertically, so im pretty sure youll be fine. i figured with the hard drive on top it was meant to stand... its probably alright to turn it when its on, but never with a game inside. screws your game up

 

Yea, I was fixing the video cable once while it was running and I knocked it and it put a nice scratch in it :-/ but I was able to get the game fixed.
