Kind of a tangent thought... I read somewhere that the US Interstate Highway system was designed to accomodate speeds up to 250mph (assuming the weather, road surface, vehicle, and driver arecapable) - does anyone know if that's true, or just as made-up as the bit about how supposedly every sixth mile of the Interstate is straight and level so as to be used as an emergency landing airstrip?

Key word there WAS, there are many streches of highway that are so shot to hell and what not that i surprise myslef and go 10 under the limit just to avoid damage, that other bit about the interstae was probably true at the time with the intent of being bigger and better than our enemies, but if you've been out driving theres an overpass like every miles or so and by the time the interstate was completed in the 50's what were the chances you could land and safley take off a T-33 or F-4
