Is like the underwing of a plane, a bit of air going over the top, the bottom travels more distance and thus the plane flies. Am I close? Anyone good with physics?

It still has blades, theyve been moved to the inside. The air that is moved with the pump is pushed over the air plane blade which uses pressure differences and particle entrainment to multiply the air current.

It is a common misconception that Bernoulli's Principle is responsible for flight. If you do the calculations, the the force associated with the Bernoulli effect is not enough to lift the weight of most planes.

Yesterday, there was an aeronautics engineer on the forum discussing these types of things. Maybe he can better explain the fan.

Well I'm all for Dyson innovations - their vacuums rock. But $300 for a safer fan... lol... I had to laugh when in the Today show spot they mention the price tag and all Dyson could mumble was that the air "buffetted" you when this did not...

Sorry, I can justify paying $450 for a vacuum that i;ve now had for 4 yrs and never loses suction - for suction matters on a vacuum. "Air buffetting" feels like wind in your face - completely natural... Unless it drops to under $100 I'll pass this time around... lol...
